Elderly oral health is just as important as it is for younger people, but older adults may face additional barriers to accessing the care they need. One such issue may even be getting to the dentist, which can be nearly impossible for homebound seniors or those with mobility issues that limit their ability to get around.
Therefore, elderly oral health may be at greater risk than patients from other demographic groups. Enter homebound care as a possible solution. With this set-up, the dentist goes to the patient to provide care, eliminating the need to coordinate transportation and possibly set up a caregiver to accompany them to the appointment.
When providing homebound care, a dentist can provide a variety of treatments needed to address various elderly oral health issues. Services may include cleanings and exams, simple extractions, restorations (including dentures), gum disease treatment and care for oral health issues specifically pertinent to aging-related diseases, such as Alzheimer’s and other dementias. The patient can receive care right in his or her bed or in another comfortable setting in the home.
In order to provide these services, the dentist will bring along all necessary tools to replicate the services as though they were provided in an office setting. The instruments are state-of-the-art and sterilized in our office for patient protection. We even have a portable x-ray machine to support radiography that helps in diagnosing and caring for patients’ conditions.
In addition to the convenience factor, homebound care can also ease any patient anxiety surrounding dental treatments. Being in a familiar, comfortable environment eliminates the qualms that can arise merely from walking into a new office setting.
It is important to note that we are not contracted with any insurance providers, so all of our services are private pay. We accept cash, checks and Visa or Mastercard as forms of payment.
