Dentures
THE IMPORTANCE OF REPLACING MISSING TEETH
As our patients age, it’s not uncommon for them to suffer tooth loss. While this is not unusual, it can have a dramatic effect on patients’ ability to chew, eat, and ultimately maintain proper nutrition. Many of our elderly patients look forward to meal times each day, and we want them to enjoy their food to the fullest. A full set of teeth makes maintaining a regular diet easier and keeps patients from less desirable modes of nutrition intake such as only eating soft foods or pureed food due to missing teeth.
WHAT ARE DENTURES?
A denture is a removable replacement for missing teeth and adjacent tissues. It is made of acrylic resin or vinyl, sometimes in combination with various metals. Complete dentures replace all the teeth, while a partial denture fills in the spaces created by missing teeth and prevents other teeth from changing position.
Impressions are taken using the same high quality materials as in a fixed office. We have the option of pouring the impression on-site or transporting it to our lab specializing in dentures. All appointments are done on-site and easily performed by our treating dentist. It typically requires 3-5 visits for a denture to be completed. All follow-up and adjustments are done on-site until the patients is comfortable and satisfied.
